In June, we offer films that have been produced many decades before on an eternal human subject, which has not come to a rest over time, but to this day is one of the most divisive guidelines for exclusional powers around the world. But as a memento, they don't leave the viewer untouched.
Boys Don't Cry (Boys Don't Cry) American, 1999, 118 min. Presented by: Kimberly Peirce, author: Kimberly Peirce and Andy Bienen, cameraman: Jim Denault, music: Nathan Larson, cast by: Hilary Swank (Teena Brandon), Chloƫ Sevigny (Lana Tisdel), Peter Sarsgaard (John)
The boys don't cry, one of the toughest, most traumatic and sensitive LGBTQ films ever made. It's based on a real story: how an American transgender male Brandon Teena became a victim of terrible violence. The film's creator, Kimberly Peirce, conducted comprehensive research on the circumstances of the case before writing the script. He also leaned on the documentary that revealed the crime in detail, using its scenes, dialogues, and real characters. The raw social environment of his film can be horrifying to today's eyes, and we can only hope that such inhuman injustice can no longer exist.
After a long selection, the protagonist, Hilary Swank, is perhaps the greatest actress in the role of a man who seeks love in a fragile female body. In 2000, she won the Oscar for the best female star.
